What are User Personas?

You can think of a user persona as a reliable and realistic representation of your audience. It helps you to see your target audience as real people and to picture how your product should fit into their real needs and tasks.

Personas are typically used when planning a product’s UX, and it’s essential when making decisions that will change your product – who will be using this feature? How is it contributing to this Persona? You need to make sure your product works for your customers, and the best way possible.

A well-organized set of personas will help people around the company to understand better the “Why” of building (or not building) features, or making changes in the product. In the end, your personas are the ones paying for the product, and the ones that you have to build for.

Why should you think about creating User Personas?

You should see personas as a consulting tool when you’re empathizing and thinking of the people using your product. You can do this using different tools, however, building personas will give your product a real user, who has pains, dreams, and jobs. This way it’s easier for you to understand your audience, as well as for all the management. Personas are one more support for the decisions you and your company have to make. It’s vital, though, that you invest time and research during the process of finding your product’s personas, in order to guarantee reliability and credible characters that could be using your product right now.
